The classic purple color provides a sense of sophistication and elegance.  Touchstone carries a wide variety of the beautiful gemstone. From small glimpses in jewelry, to large cathedrals for home décor. No matter the range of sizes, the shimmering glow of this amazing mineral is truly one of a kind!

Legend and Lore: This gem gets its name from the Greek word “Amethystos” which translates to “not drunken”. Amethyst has been a very popular mineral through many decades and cultures. It is commonly valued for its beauty and the belief that it can heal both physical and emotional damage. Amethyst was once regarded as a precious gemstone such as diamonds, sapphire, and ruby.

Mineral Formation: The presence of iron in the gemstone gives it its radiant purple color. As a variety of quartz, Amethyst is a heat sensitive gemstone. When heat treated, Amethyst becomes beautiful orange citrine. Amethyst can form in a variety of different crystals based on location, but the most common type of amethyst crystal is a stubby pyramidal crystal.

Revealed by Man: While the discovery of Amethyst is still uncertain, we have used the minera
l for billions of years. Amethyst crystals are common in places like Brazil, France, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, Russia and Uruguay.
